Home of the cheap ski and beach holiday.

Bulgaria is a beautiful, small country of old world culture.

Miles of sandy beaches and shorelines for relaxing holidays and water sports.

Mountains for hiking, climbing, skiing and wintersports. Lakes for rafting, canoeing, kayaking, diving and fishing, and caves for caving.

With all this going on - you may just be tempted to take part!

Check your travel insurance covers adventure activities before you leave.

Documents you need to get medical treatment

UK passport and NHS medical card, previously known as the E111.  The EHIC doesn't cover repatriation costs.

Hospitals

Ask to be referred to a National Health Insurance Fund hospital (NHIF), not a private hospital (same for dentists).

After hospital discharge, you're entitles to a max. of 2 examinations.

Free or reduced cost from NHIF chemists if you've been issued a receipt for non-chronic illness otherwise you'll pay full price.

For a chronic, pre-existing medical condition, you'll be issued with a prescription.  Full price in NHIF and private pharmacies.

Doctors:  There's a small charge to see a doctor.

Ambulance:  You could be charged if they decide it wasn't a genuine emergency.
