If you fall sick or are injured in an accident abroad and want to claim compensation from the person responsible, legal expenses cover can help meet the cost of taking out a civil action.

How much cover?

Standard travel insurance policies usually provide £25,000 for legal costs, up to a max. of £50,000.

Sometimes lower for Gap Year policies.

Disputes with:

  • Travel agents
  • Tour operators
  • Carriers
  • Travel insurers
  • Fellow travellers
  • Relatives
  • Employers/employees
  • Criminal activities.
  • Court fines/penalties/compensation costs.
  • Appeal costs.

Insurers won’t entertain you if the cost of the action is likely to be more than what they reckon you’re likely to get in compensation.
